a quick trip to charleston

Why hello!

I guess I am back from an unscheduled hiatus. It’s been frustrating trying to get back into the swing of things and keep myself from getting overwhelmed from everything going on within the last month. But it is starting to slow down and I’m getting over this writer’s block and what not.

Anyways, last month I celebrated my 24th birthday and it was so friggin’ relaxing! A huge thank you to my parents, Anthony, and my friends for all of the birthday wishes. I stuffed myself silly with cake and food. And literally the weekend after, Anthony and I went down to Charleston for a couple days as I had my cousin’s bridal shower to attend.

To be honest; this trip wasn’t as relaxing as I hoped it would be. It felt like there was always something we had to do, but there was a day or two where Anthony and I were able to go out and shop a bit and grab a delicious bite to eat. And on top of that, my camera won’t recognize my computer when I plug in the USB so there’s an entire day’s worth of photos that I can’t upload. Ughhhh. BUT I WILL TRY.

bridal shower

So, the day after arriving was my cousin’s bridal shower and it was so lovely. She had such pretty decorations and the party favors were champagne flutes with our names on them. For a gift I got her a cute towel that says “Mrs” on it along with a knife she had asked for in her registry. I enjoyed seeing her again after what has felt like years and so happy she’s finally getting married to such a kind fellow.

myrtle beach

The next day (also the day my current camera is holding hostage), we went to Myrtle Beach as a day trip so that we could go and see the Hollywood Wax Museum. The museum was okay, definitely not what I expected in terms of realness to the celebrities portrayed but still fun. The museum also has two extra interactive rooms; a Zombie room that I ended up having a huge anxiety and panic attack during and a Mirror room that…was designed for kids. After the museum, we went out for lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe which was mine and Anthony’s first time. It wasn’t like how I initially imagined, but the food was decent so there’s that. Afterwards, we all took a stroll along the boardwalk where we found some really cool stores but my main concern was filling my dairy-allergic belly with ice cream because #aesthetic.

Our last two days in town, we went out shopping at the outlet stores. I ended up finding two dresses for under $50, accessories, and goodies for mad cheap! My shopping addicted little heart couldn’t process it. We were also on the hunt for South Carolina mugs at Starbucks, but alas…they do not have any. How upsetting. But still, we found so many great deals and even had a magnificent lunch at a new Japanese restaurant that was surprisingly authentic and not that expensive.

Overall, our trip was fairly busy and I didn’t really get to do all of the things I wanted…but it was still so wonderful to see my family and spend time with Anthony in my hometown. Hopefully next time we go down, we can go to the beach and visit downtown. But that is it for today’s post! I hope you guys enjoyed and like I said, I am so sorry for the lack of pictures…I am trying to troubleshoot the issue, but nothing is working unless I get an SD card reader. (le sigh) Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead of you and I shall see you next time! ❤

SimplyMe: Wedding Stuff & Other Things…

wedding stuff

Hello To Everyone!
I am back finally!!! It has been so busy recently and I just came down with another ill day and oh my gosh I CAN’T WIN. But a lot of wedding stuff/planning has been underway and a lot of food, working out, and I am literally all over the place. But now that some of the important things are taken care of, I can really start to relax until the last week of September since we’ll be having our Engagement Cookout with family and wedding party members. But here is a little update on what’s been going on lately!!

wedding stuff1So, last Sunday my family, my best friend/Maid of Honor, and I went to Fairfax for the Washington Bridal Expo and I have forgotten how overwhelming these bridal conventions can be. There were so many different vendors and so many prizes to win. It was madness. Luckily my family and Ambrozine were so helpful!! We ate our weight in free food and cake and oh my gosh it was great in the meal aspect. I did find a few photographers and videographers that I really wanted to meet with and so on, but for the most part…it was just crazy and I will probably only go to one more and then be finished with them. But I am so glad I got to see my best friend and really go over possible plans, color combos, and so on!! She’s truly the best MoH ever!

wedding stuff2Monday, Anthony and I finally took our pre-wedding/engagement photos with the incredible duo photographers: Mathy Shoots People. The whole day was just geared towards prepping for our session. I had to get my hair curled by my hair stylist, had my mother do my makeup since I get shaky hands when it comes to eyeliner, and talk about ideas with Anthony. We did our photo shoot in Downtown Fredericksburg since it’s got antique shops galore and a river near by for great photos. We also took some shots in a freakin’ awesome vintage store called Horseshoes and Hand Grenades also located in Downtown Fredericksburg and they were so amazing to us! They closed the store a tad early so we could take our photos without any interruptions and distractions. They also had like super cute vintage clothes and it took everything in my power to not buy everything. But I do want to thank everyone who helped out!!! Thank you Matt and Kathy, H&HG, Jennifer Cheek (hair stylist), and my mother!! I can’t wait to show you all the photos!

wedding stuff3Last but not least, Thursday I went to my first Bridal Boutique!! Apparently, my mom had a friend who’s sister ran a local Bridal shop in Occoquan called Amy’s Bridal Boutique! So, my mom, brother, and I went up for the day and had some Salvadorian food before heading to our appointment. In case you don’t know what those things are in the picture, they are Fried Plantains (Plantanos) and Pupusas! I tried to limit what I was eating since I didn’t want to be bloated while trying on possible corseted dresses. Well, after lunch we headed over to the store and I fell in love with Amy and her mother! They were so lovely and personal…I felt so comfortable trying on dresses. After about 4 or 5 dresses, I felt so awkward because I had really loved them all. They all had something that I fell in love with, but not enough to buy on the spot. There was one dress though that when I initially saw, I thought it was definitely not the one and it was going to be laughable even. Let me just say that just because it looks a certain on the hanger, doesn’t mean it won’t look DROP DEAD GORGEOUS ON YOU. Well, I tried it on for hoots and giggles…and I fell in love immediately and I told my mom to FaceTime my dad to show him. We all felt it: THIS WAS MY WEDDING DRESS. So…I bought it. I would post a picture of the dress on here, but just in case Anthony decides to read this post…I’m just going to keep that a secret until our big day! Sorry!!! But a brief description: It reminds me of a shooting star. BAHAHAHA. I’m sorry again.

Well, that is pretty much all that has happened recently! Just an update on TheDCLadies.Com: My next post will be live on the 26th during TheDCLadies Wedding Week! So, I have a special idea planned for the occasion, but it will still pertain to college students so don’t worry! I am supposed to be receiving a lovely package of purchases within the next few days, so I may do a mini-haul this week or do a review on the recent Legend of Korra Book 2 episodes since I’ve been trying to add a geeky feature to the blog. Let me know which you would like best in the comment section!!!
Anyways, have a fantastic week everyone!! Please stay safe and if you could have Colorado Flood Victims in your thoughts and prayers, please do so! Remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

SimplyMe: A Bridal Shower & A Birthday

Hello everyone! It’s been a week since my last post and I am so happy to finally have a night where I’m not exceptionally exhausted. I have been running around as always, but it seemed this week was especially busy with all the events that occurred! But in case you haven’t noticed, the past week has been about a bridal shower and my birthday. I guess we’ll start with the Bridal Shower!photo2_zpsc4fb938eSo, the 16th of March, I attended my very first Bridal Shower for a dear friend of mine and Anthony’s. The theme was red, white, and black so I guess I’ll give you the low down on my outfit!

Cardigan: ModCloth
Sweater: TJMaxx
Jeans: WalMart
Wedges: Payless
Purse: ModCloth
Jewelry: Charlotte Russe, Forever21, & Betsey Johnson.

Moving on, the shower was actually really laid back and I got to see a few girlies I haven’t seen in a while. I would post more pictures, but I don’t have everyone’s consent, so I will just tell you to go to my Instagram (@TaylorRae319) for pics. I was asked to bake cupcakes for the dessert and they were actually quite difficult..only because my hands would not stop shaking when it came to applying the edible pearls. So I had to use tweezers. Two hours. Two slightly painful hours. But, they came together beautifully and my iPhone took a freakin’ fantastic picture I must say. It was really great for my first Bridal Shower, but a couple people asked a relatively popular question: “Are you and Anthony thinking marriage?” and truth is; Yes. We’ve been talking about it more and more, but at the same time…we aren’t trying to rush things and we want to be prepared when we decide to take that next step. I’ll have my very own Bridal Shower one day…

401231_10151808239379867_1133642771_n_zpsfc5cc2dcMan, I must admit…these pictures look better on Instagram. But anyways, for those who did not know; I celebrated my birthday at home this year. Honestly, I feel like 20 is such an awkward age in America. In Japan, I would be allowed to have a beer or something, but in America…I am left with only the ability to pay for a renewed license. So, I felt that this year should be spent in the comfort of my home with my family and of course, Anthony. But…I did ask Anthony for one day where we could go to the National Zoo in DC since it has been 2 years since I’ve gone. And he agreed. SO, the zoo is my birthday celebration. And I enjoyed myself entirely.5636_10151808236274867_1817589509_nArgh, the HD pictures are on Instagram people! Sorry for the terrible quality…OH! I am trying to do more OOTD posts, so I am starting with another OUTFIT RUNDOWN.

Denim Top: Forever21
Cardigan: Ross
Jeggings: Kohls
Sneaker Wedges: Target
Purse: Coach

So, I know I mentioned the Cherry Blossom festival in my last post and how I was dying to go. But, we ended up spending more time at the zoo then we had originally anticipated and we missed pretty much all of the available festival activities. I wasn’t too down about it though because we were already pretty tired. (We’re like old people…) So we ended up just heading toward Kushi for dinner.

601152_10151803688609867_1550987459_nAnthony had some beef skewers and pork shoulder. I decided that LOTS OF RICE and soup would fill me up and make me happy. So, I went with the beef gyuudon (ビーフ牛丼), two rice balls (お握り); one with ume and the other with okaka, and miso soup (味噌汁). It was so delicious and well worth the money! It tasted just like I remember in Japan! I also liked the restaurant itself because it wasn’t like a hibachi joint. It was so casual and relaxed. I would highly recommend it if you live in the DC area!!!
But afterwards, we decided that we are like old people and called it night with a long metro trip home and some heavy TV watching once we got back. For me, though…that sounds magical and well worth it. I did vlog about the trip, but I am figuring out my new HD VIDEO CAMERA! Yes, that is correct! I recieved a wonderful new camera from my parents for birthday. They said they wanted me to enhance my blog and youtube and boy did they set me up to do so! Trust me, I thank them everyday when I go through the zoo footage and when I write down ideas. I am excited to give you guys awesome videos to enhance your SimplyTaylorRae experience! So, be on the lookout!254946_10151808235384867_1341848537_nThank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday! I know I only turn 20 once, but I was surely the most blessed 20 year old ever. If you want to see more pictures from our DC adventure, visit my instagram or my twitter, both are @TaylorRae319!
