SimplyMe: Father’s Day, ACNL, & a Maid of Honor

Hello lovelies~!
It’s been such a crazy week but it is beginning to settle down. Anthony and I have been engaged for officially a week and people are still finding out, but it’s not too big of a wave now. We’re in the process of planning our engagement party which is really just an excuse to have our families come together and get to know each other better as well as see my family from Winchester who I rarely see now thanks to work. I’m excited and my heart is fluttering constantly. I am thinking about documenting the different processes of my wedding planning and I am wondering if we will be able to take video of the engagement shoot somehow…so tempting. But right now it’s just relaxing this year and enjoying the engagement before the stress of planning becomes overwhelming. But I will be attending the Bridal Showcase in Fairfax on September 8 with my parents, so I will probably document that too. ANYWAYS, let us move on to recent events…

familyLast Sunday was Father’s Day and unfortunately, I had to work but I got off at 6:30 so I was home just in time for dinner and I got my dad a gift card (he told me not to get a gift, but I felt he deserved something!!) and a really cool card that didn’t give me enough room to write in it…so it went sideways and slanted in areas. Yeah, great card I must say. I also got him some Reese’s cups since those are his favorite candy and what not! The next day, me and my mom went out to lunch to celebrate her birthday since Anthony and I were in Maryland all day on Tuesday. She ordered the biggest margarita as possible and surprisingly drank it all. Thank goodness I was driving…but we had a wonderful Mexican meal and she loved her gifts! I got her Coach shoes and Anthony got her a “South Park” Stan doll. It was definitely a great time.

animal crossingThis is the best thing that ever happened to me…before Anthony proposed. So, when I found out that Animal Crossing: New Leaf was finally released in the US, I also found out that there was a limited edition 3DS XL with an Animal Crossing print on it and I immediately fell in love. Unfortunately for me, I only had the DSi XL which is unable to play 3DS games…so I was pretty willing to buy this baby in a heartbeat. ONLY TO FIND OUT: It was sold out. SUPPOSEDLY. So while I was out with mom for her birthday, Anthony called me and said that he had found THE LAST ONE IN VIRGINIA that a customer no longer wanted and never picked up in RICHMOND and the GameStop clerk was willing to hold it for us for that day only. That’s about an hour from where I live, so it’s quite a drive. He tells me that if I transfer the money to his account, he’ll go and pick it up for me. After 15 minutes of debate, he drove to get it and I transferred the money. BEST DECISION EVER. I absolutely love it. I love the console, I love the game, I love everything about it and I cannot stop. Only downside is that it won’t accept my wifi, which is rather weird but okay with me because I never played the old Animal Crossing games with internet anyways. But the game is addicting and I have literally been playing it every day. Anthony says it was a fine investment to drive and get it because it lets him rest while I play my video games and brings a smile to my face (d’awwww!).

yechonLast, but not least: I had lunch with my best friend in Annandale and did some bakery/goody shopping. I have had a terrible sinus infection with the random rain and mold and I am constantly clogged up. So, I felt that some spicy Korean food was necessary to clear me out even if for a couple hours. So, we went to Shilla’s Bakery and picked up some baked goods and pastries and then made our way down to Yechon for some Chicken Teriyaki for her and Doenjang Jjigae for me. Am I the only one who puts my rice in my jjigae? During our trip, I actually asked my best friend if she would be my Maid of Honor for my wedding…and she said YES!!! I was so happy and excited and she was too and it was like a match made in heaven because after I asked her, she was like “DISNEY BACHLORETTE!” and I knew it was meant to be. So after our delicious lunch, we went next door to Breeze Bakery and bought some more pastries and I also treated us to a fruit tart and an iced green tea latte. I swear, Breeze has the best green tea latte and fruit tart I’ve ever had. So fresh and delicious. AHHHH. I’m craving.

So that’s been the past two weeks! I’m trying to think of anything exciting that will be happening soon and so far, I’m not too sure. But I may post a review on this Korean brand of sheet masks I’ve been using lately. Either that, or I’ll post about my night time routine since my morning routine is rather LAME. I need to do more health and beauty posts!!

With all that said, I hope you all have a great and fantastic week. Feel free to follow me on Twitter & Instagram: @TaylorRae319 as well as Tumblr & Snapeee: SimplyTaylorRae. Take care everyone and please be safe and always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

Outfit of the Day: Concert Wear & A Surprise Announcement

It’s been an incredible and rather busy week to say the least. So much has been happening and I ended up coming down with a sinus infection/cold. Argh, but I am beyond happy. So, Anthony and I made time for a concert date this week to see The Postal Service in Maryland! And let me tell you, it was one of the best concerts I’ve been too. Although we didn’t have relatively close seating, it was still fantastic. And surprisingly, other DC bloggers were there as well! So, here is my OOTD from Tuesday…tumblr_mola3zQRvX1qa95aho1_500I tried to keep it simple and warm since it was supposed to be rainy and windy of course. But, it was crazy comfortable too!! In this picture though, I am wearing my house slippers rather than shoes…
Blouse – Dalia Collection
Cardigan – ModCloth
Jeans – Kohl’s
Boots – Payless
Purse – Coachtumblr_mop314De341qa95aho1_500
This outfit ended up being my best friend because we ended up sitting in the rain for close to 2 hours while waiting for the physical venue to open up. I  have been addicted to button ups lately though…it’s terrible, but others disagree~!  But, I will always cherish this outfit for the sole reason below…

tumblr_momdu5emf01qa95aho1_500I SAID YES!!!!

I suppose I should elaborate, Anthony proposed on June 18th at the Merriweather Post Pavillion during the encore at The Postal Service concert. It was really a surprise honestly! I told Anthony that I kept having a dream about being proposed to with loud music in the background. So, we go to Maryland for the concert and have a few hours in between to relax at a nearby mall. Well, Anthony and I stopped at a jewelry store so he could look at “potential earrings” and I just sat there staring at wedding bands, well one of the store employees walks up and decides to humor me by letting me try them on and see what I like. Normally, Anthony would be a little hesitant and not really be involved when it came to jewelry stores. However, today was a tad different. He was writing things down, telling me what he liked, and the sort. I was pleasantly surprised, but didn’t really think too much into it. So we get to the concert and they played my two favorite songs and nothing happened, so I decided it wasn’t the day today and to just enjoy the rest of the concert without feeling too down about it. Well, the encore transition came on with this brilliant lightshow and music and next thing you know, Anthony grabs my hand and starts playing with my ring finger. I thought it was weird, but I was already trying to calm myself down from earlier. And then…he slid the ring onto my finger. And I didn’t even give him a proper answer; I jumped up and hugged him and started crying my eyes out. After I cried a tad bit and calmed down a little bit, he asked “I still haven’t heard your answer yet.” And I was like “YESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!” tumblr_momhq1iTBX1qa95aho1_500This is a unedited close up of the ring. I absolutely love solitaire rings because they show a simple elegance and it’s not too flashy. It’s simple. And that’s what I enjoy most about it. I also like that if I want to later down the road, I could purchase a “jacket” for the ring but for now, I’m just enjoying the ring itself.

As for a date for our wedding, we aren’t really in a rush. We haven’t chosen a date, let alone think of one. Right now, we just want to enjoy the engagement while we can before wedding planning stresses us out and overwhelms us. But we’ve received so much love and support and we just want to thank everyone for their kind words and advice! Calls have been coming in like mad and the texts and facebooking. It’s been crazy. We are so excited to begin a new journey together and we can’t wait to see where the road leads us.

Although, I am finding it difficult to remember that Anthony is now my fiancé. I keep saying “boyfriend” and my girl friends are like “TAYLOR!! He’s your fiancé now!!!!” I guess old habits are hard to break, haha!

With all of that said, I hope you all enjoyed this post! It’s been one year since I bought the SimplyTaylorRae.Com domain and I have treasured each post, day, etc. etc. The amount of support from everyone has been overwhelming because this website is truly my dream. It is my dream that has come to life. Slowly, but surely we are gaining more and more readers and followers and it’s been such an amazing experience that I want to keep going and continue. So thank you all for making SimplyTaylorRae what it is today. Thank you so so much from the bottom of my heart. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and I will see you all soon! Remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

When Life Hands You Lemons…

Hello Loves & All!
Ah, yes. Summer is upon us and I am not enjoying it too much, I must admit. Today, I was out on a coffee date with a lovely friend of mine and we decided to sit outside…worst mistake ever. I forgot about sunscreen and now my face and arms are incredibly red! Argh, but at least my Iced Green Tea Latte was to die for. But, typing this post is difficult and slightly painful…NO PAIN WILL STOP ME EVER!!! Anyways, recently I have been on this lemon water drinking spree. Like, if I go out to eat I will always order warm water with lemon or if I’m bored at home, instead of eating I will drink lemon water. Since then, I have been wanting to do a lemon beauty recipe post! So…here it is!2f505b11-ae02-46a7-a37d-0ff958d5efc7_zpsc9c92176Let us talk about lemons in general for a moment. Why are they so good for our skin? Well, lemons are rich in vitamin C and B vitamin complex as well as the mineral phosphorus. Therefore, it’s good for you internally and externally! The vitamin C in lemons speeds up the cell turnover process and the acidity acts as an antiseptic and is great for killing bacteria and allowing your skin to heal. However, if you have sensitive skin, please limit the use of lemon on your skin. By limit, I mean use it in between long periods of time. Lemons can cause sensitive skin to become inflamed or irritated, so please be careful!62b69875-d28f-40ad-978e-409ee96b6a4a_zps0ec049e4This recipe is from Beautylish user Victoria Stanell! This recipe is designed to help with those pesky acne mark, help your skin protect itself, and the honey will also work as an antiseptic and hydrates the skin.
2 Tablespoons of Organic Honey
4 Teaspoons of Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
3 Teaspoons Plain Greek Yogurt
1 Egg White
Add all the ingredients into a mixing bowl until the consistency is nice and thick. Apply small amount to a clean, dry face and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Gently wash off with warm water and pat dry. Make sure to save the rest for other people in your family or if you want to use it within the same week!e78b27a1-da9a-4db7-b1d2-53b639db8052_zps678374d8This was a random recipe I found while googling and I thought it seemed really refreshing and easy! It uses 3 common household foods: bananas, honey, and our lovely lemons! The bananas leave our skin nice and smooth while the lemon helps fade acne and the honey is a natural antiseptic.
1 Ripe Banana, Blended
1 Tablespoon of Honey
1 Tablespoon of Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
I feel like a lot of these recipes are put together the same way…THROW IT IN THE MIXING BOWL. Mix, Mix, Mix! BOOM!! Put it on your nice clean and dry face. Let it stay for 15 minutes!! Then WASH IT OFF with warm water and pat dry. Oh how simple life is…*le sigh*

Anyways, that is it for today ladies! Please let me know how these recipes worked for you or if you have any other lemon recipes, feel free to share them in the comments or send me an e-mail through the contact button above!

I am thinking about doing next week’s “OOTD & What’s in My Bag: Concert Edition” post on Monday since Tuesday I will be BUSY with Mom’s birthday and then the concert in Maryland. But I may do a SimplyMe post to show off pictures and experiences that have recently occurred…like this ridiculous sunburn (it’s embarrassing).

As always, please have an amazing rest of the week! Thank you all for the love and support~! And please be safe, stay blessed, and always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂

Simple Summer Fashion Ideas…

Hello Hello Lovely Ladies~!
Summer is approaching fast with June finally here! The ugly 17-year-old cicadas are beginning to swarm around my house, but I’m not going to let it ruin my fashion fun! One thing I am trying to do this summer is really to become a bit more comfortable with my body, which includes wearing frilly tank tops and flats. So, here are some cute pieces that I feel are necessary to my Summer wardrobe!aa29c0d2-7b5d-4276-bb82-b2276d36be76_zps28f08750So, this summer is definitely the summer for me. I feel so comfortable in my skin finally that I want to try wearing more frills and I guess you can say my style is becoming a tad bit more Mori Girl (森ガール) inspired, so I’ve been really into neutrals lately and I think that it’s becoming a staple in my wardrobe…I guess what I’m trying to say is you’ll see a lot of Mori influences in these picks.f5abd3b4-c8b4-4b84-860e-fa14e679b020_zps0314f155So, this summer for me is all about being cute and simple. When I say cute and simple, I mean cute and simple patterns and light fabric. In Northern Virginia, we tend to have hot and humid weather during the summer, so light fabrics are necessary during the season. Personally, I am pretty in love with ModCloth’s Carefree Spirited Top ($37.99). It’s got a cute lace detail and it’s light enough for the hot weather. This can also be paired with a light black or pastel cardigan for those summer nights out, if it gets a tad chilly. If you experience this weather as well, you may want to stick with cotton and chiffon fabrics. These are light and are actually quite refreshing and cooling in the heat.

dac49611-843a-4bd9-b343-dea6ac969287_zps66ca37e8When it comes to cardigans, they are a year round piece. You can wear them in any weather and it gives a cute layered look to an outfit and they are available EVERYWHERE for relatively cheap prices. I am serious ladies… Anyways, for summer, try going with light, pastel, or neutral colors. Also, you could add a belt to emphasize the smallest part of your waist and make you look slimmer. Make sure that your cardigan is thin enough to breath in since it’s another layer in the heat. However, you could limit your cardigans to night time events and to keep you warm in the evening summer breeze.

75d49b38-6651-40f1-aa11-7dab5c167535_zpsa7b01b72I am loving flats this season. They are so comfortable and sometimes they look so cute with patterned socks…but it’s too hot for that, so sockless we go (or those no-show socks…). But they are truly a girl’s best friend so you can pair them with any jean, dress, skirt, etc. The ones pictured are shoes that I actually own and was featured in a previous post! In case you didn’t know, I got them at TJMaxx for $12.99 in black canvas. They are so comfy and bring a casual feel to an outfit! I also like wearing them with my polka dot socks, but that’s just me…but yes, I do think flats are necessary in a summer wardrobe and are useful for 90% of situations, I promise you.

Alright everyone, those are my simple summer fashion ideas. I am really trying to find my style this summer since it tends to change a lot, but Anthony has always told me I had a simple and “grandma” style; meaning I love bold prints and neutrals. So, I tend to stick with those…and polka dots. I think I have maybe too many polka dot and Disney items. Gosh, what is wrong with me?

ANYWAYS. Sorry for the delayed posting! In case you don’t know, I’ve been working out a lot lately however, I guess I overdid it one night and it took a huge toll on me: I ended up with a numb leg and feeling nauseous and sick these past few days. Along with that, LACK OF SLEEP. I am so tempted to do a sleep better post because I have been having so much trouble sleeping! I will go to bed at 10pm and I will literally do everything possible to sleep but it won’t happen until 4-5am. So, I guess that didn’t help with the working out situation and what not either. But, I’m doing my best to get better. (I must admit though, I’ve lost some weight and it’s made me so happy and motivated to work out and be healthier…)

With all of that said, I hope you all had an amazing week/weekend! Next weekend is Father’s Day and then the 18th is my Mother’s birthday and the day of the Postal Service concert that me and Anthony are going to! SO EXCITED! I will be doing an OOTD post that week, though it may be Wednesday when I post it. But, that’s pretty much all the news I have for you all! Have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and blessed, and always remember to Live. Laugh. Smile 🙂
